The Reflection

By Elton Camp

In the mirror his face he didn’t see
Rather, it was the man he used to be

“It seems like it was only yesterday,”
His children heard old Dad sadly say

“The laboratory work I carried on
But those days are forever gone.”

For the same image none of them did see

“How did this happen,” he says in disbelief
Of his youth, time was such a sneaky thief

The image exists only in his aged mind
To him, the passing years haven’t been kind

The phantom reflection fades slowly away
Dad returns unwillingly to the present day

His degrees and experience were for naught
Solace in his cup of coffee the old man sought
