Being a college student is great, being broke while being a college student not so much...

The Beginning

I am a college student…
Every student and every parent who has a student know that within this, declaration lay some inherent truths, namely I’m always broke. Then, I got lucky, or so I thought when my friend strong armed me into signing up for a seasonal gig last Christmas at Company X.
Apparently, I was a good enough worker Bee because I was invited to come back, and after a background check, urinating in a cup – drug tested for those of you thinking “Huh?” –, and enduring a mind numbingly boring week of orientation I began working for Company X on a one- year assignment about one week ago.

Company X

I will not name the company for fear of repercussions, but I will say I’m basically an overnight, factory –warehouse worker. This works well for me because I’m able to go to all my classes, sleep most of the day, and I now have money in my pocket, not a lot, but at least I’m no longer chronically broke.
However, I’ve been yelled at, talked down to, talked at and bullied by supervisors all of which makes me feel like I’m at an incarceration facility instead the workplace.

Why do I stay you ask?
Because it pays much more than waiting tables or asking, “Do you want fries with that?”
My decision to stay my friends marked the beginning of my run as employee 0008 at Company X, and opened up a whole world of experiences I couldn’t even begin to imagine, and because I just cannot keep them all to myself, I’ve decided to share them all with you as they unfold through a series of writings I’ve titled “The Misadventures of Awkward Employee #0008.”
