The Hero We Need but not The One We Deserve

A time I believe I made a sacrifice for the greater good.

Guys, You OWE me for what I did for you.

So back in the day when The Vow came out on DVD, my girlfriend at the time thought it would be a romantic surprise to rent it and bring it over so we could watch that bad boy.

I initially had no problem with that proposition as it meant I would spend more time with her and she'd get to stay over for the night.

When the time came, she arrived at my place, we made out for a bit, we went to prepare something to eat and when that was done, popped the DVD into the player and entrenched ourselves on the couch with a couple of cushions and pillows and my PREMIERE blanket.

Around 13 minutes into the movie, I realized that this was going to be one of those tear-jerking love stories.

I HATE those types of movies.

However, because of the effort she put into making the whole night come together, I held my tongue and grimly watched the movie, whereas she started ruining my blanket with her tears.

After an hour or so, towards the end of the movie, my patience was wearing thin but it seemed fate had my back.

My girl fell asleep before the end and I sure as hell wasn’t going to finish that movie but before I popped it out of the DVD player, I had an epiphany.

Because it was so popular at the time, many guys were going to be forced to watch The Vow and undergo the same trauma I just had.

As a man, I couldn’t allow other men to be subjected to that horror.

I scratched the disc with a sewing needle; put it back in the box, and my woman returned it to the rental store the following day without knowing what I had done.

Somewhere out there, there is a poor bastard who thought he was going to be stuck in my situation but was saved when the disc froze.

Somewhere out there, there's a guy who owes me and doesn't even know it.
