Kim Kardashian - Famous for Being Kim Kardashian

If you want to see culture turned upside down, take a look at the career of Kim Kardashian. A sickening role model to many, she represents the toxicity of many aspects of modern life, even if she is but one of many to unwittingly - or deliberately - endorse it.

The Impossible Task

Try for a minute, ladies and gentlemen, to watch a Kim Kardashian show and sum up, in positive terms, what it's all about. I certainly couldn't, although I did manage to come up with a bazillion expletives and other harsh words that would come out of your mouth if you were competing in the World Swearing/Cursing Championship.

Now, flip the tables and try and verbalise the terrible/awful things about the show and what espouses. That list is more depressing than the sense of failure felt by Charlie Sheen's drug counsellor!

Paris Hilton v2.0

If you thought Paris Hilton was an atrocious example of womanhood, think again. Kim Kardashian takes the cake. True, Hilton was (and still kinda is) atrocious, but our current subject raises the bar for bimbos and airheads to a whole new level. They are not alone, though. Heidi Montag, Snooki and a range of other drama queens and prissy princesses make their name in churning out shows of nothingness geared for themselves.

How do these "stars" enrich, as opposed to dumb down, our society and culture? The answer is that they don't. All they provide is justification for a sub-generation of tweens, teens and other young girls to think material possessions and fame are your birthright if you act bitchy and selfish enough.

The paradox is that while bitchiness and selfishness isn't a finite resource nowadays, the market for girls to become millionaires in acting that way certainly is. They can't all be socialites and party supremos, so most aspiring to be like Kim will linger at the bottom. Let's only hope (but not expect) they had the foresight to finish high school, secure a good education and job, and, maybe, just maybe, avoid an unwanted pregnancy and shotgun marriage before they turn 25. Because that's what most with a Kim Kardashian have-it-all-for-nothing attitude can reasonably expect.

Generation of the Dumbed Down?

I think this all reflects a broader trend of a doped down, lazy culture. Sure, we have our hard workers and innovators, but the technology and lifestyles we take for granted certainly produce a "gimme everything you got" sense of entitlement in millions. Kim Kardashian is the epitome of this tastelessness. Do you really wonder why the US budget deficit is in the trillions? It's all a part of Western materialism. Get used to it, sure, but be prepared for the personal and societal consequences when they come - or should I say, come crashing down on us?

Good article! I couldn't agree more---the other day I heard someone say that the Kardashians are considered America's royalty.(As in royal family) Good God, no wonder we're in such trouble.

Great summation, and it will all come crashing down on us. It's just a matter of time.

I couldn't agree more. I think the Kardashians and Paris Hilton are prime examples of narscissitic personality disorder. This is something that is ever so prevalent today and it does not make for a decent society.
