Ever had this? Long moments of perplexity, followed by, perhaps, longer moments of embarrassment.

Hook, line, and stinker

“Come in”, said a soft voice, as I stood outside the door.
I entered, conducted a quick survey of the room, felt fairly sure about the piece of furniture designated for me, proceeded thither, and alit.
He cast an experienced appraising look at me, lowered his gaze, made a vague, non-directional gesture, and said, “It is open”.
That was a strange opening remark, I thought. But then I guess, to each, his own.
I said, “Okay, what would you like me to start with?”
A look of mild surprise moved across his mild face. “In a moment; but first, it is open.”
It was my turn now, for the movement of surprise across the face.
Oh, wait, maybe it was a cue. “Nice day, ain’t it?”, is what I offered.
“Well, it will be soon enough. But listen, it is open.”
Now, you see, as far as job interviews go, I was not exactly wet behind the ears, but this one was quickly heading in a most mysterious direction.
Possibly upon seeing that my visage was not reflecting adequate enlightenment, he stepped up his efforts. He proceeded to bring the tips of his right thumb and forefinger together, moved them randomly in air, all the while uttering a fascinating sound, “Bzz. Bzz. Bzz. It is open.”
I must admit, I admired his performance, although, the theme was quite lost to me.
Then a light dawned in me. “Oh, he’s one of those blokes that believe in cutting the ice. He wants me to play. So be it.”
I put on my best show. I proceeded to bring the tips of my right thumb and forefinger together, moved them randomly in air, all the while uttering, “Bzz. Bzz. Bzz.”
That’s when the explosion occurred.
“Damn it, man! Your fly is open!”

A good joke. Who would go for a job interview without checking the minor detail of a fly?
