Here Take my Leg!

You might think an artificial leg is no laughing mater but, it really depends on who's wearing it. Is this a bad thing or a good thing? The example in my life had a way of turning his leg on or off into a positive experience no mater what the circumstance might be. What type of person would joke about this anyway? Lets get some perspective on who has the problem; or is there really a problem at all?

No Leg; No laughing!

One point of view might be strictly serious about the obvious, seaming to be a disadvantage to anyone who considers them self to be a "normal whole person". After spending a great deal of time being helped by handicapped and disabled persons I have come to the conclusion that they generally have a much better attitude than many of their unhampered peers.

Uncle Charly's Leg

I worked with my uncle Charly for seven and one half years, at a company that sold thirty two lines of construction equipment. During this time he started having trouble with the blood flow in one of his legs. Eventually it was amputated below the knee and he started wearing a plastic replacement. When I asked about it he said his brain thought it was still there but his pants and shoe always argued with him about that. He went on telling me that now it wasn't necessary to bend over when cleaning his toes. He said it was his good leg because it never has pain and is much stronger than the other one.

More than one kind of PROP

One day Charly was feeding tree limbs into the shredder paying little attention to the hot muffler against his pants leg until he saw smoke ring up past his knee. My cousin and his sister were gathering more limbs for him close by when he started screaming ow ow my leg is burning! they came running over all concerned and he was laughing and whipping the burnt spot on his pants with a small limb. His twelve year old niece stepped squarely on his artificial foot and again he screamed my foot ow ow my foot! She quickly apologized and asked if it was OK so he rolled up his pant, took off his leg and handed it to her saying, does it look OK to you? They all started laughing.

The joker

Charly was constantly try to make people laugh. He used all the gimmicks, the flower that squirted water, a book that would give a little shock when you opened it, and gum that turned your teeth green when you chewed it. You might say he was good at being in season out of season. One day the paper boy came to collect for the monthly bill and uncle Charley said; I don't think I have enough money so, here take my leg. Then he handed him the money.

He always said Smiles are Contagious!

So in my own way I will try to follow his example. I hope you will find some smiles today.
Maybe you have a story to share on wikinut with me.
I found the first three royalty free pics on superstock.com and the last on royalty free istockphoto.com . I don't have any pictures of my family in the article but some might say I bear a strong resemblance to this last one.

Its all about attitude, very well said James. It is entirely a viewpoint, a glass half full or half empty. And that makes all the difference. Thanks for the inspiring share, James.

The determination and will of positive thinking people is a great inspiration to me. When Sorrow tries to assault me I know it is like a Miskito after spiritual blood

Some people have the ability to spread cheer all around despite their physical handicaps. I recall Olympian Oscar Pistorius, the double amputee, who wore carbon-fiber prosthetics that others thought gave an advantage over them. Nice share, James - siva

Some of the new technology being developed and applied today is very helpful but can also create an incident when the new item has side effects or still needs improvement.
One has to learn how to use it and train their body to work in a way some times unnatural, so I guess what I'm saying is OK. I can't help cheering for some one who overcomes the disadvantage. This is why I never gamble money!

You are right and Groucho Marx too used that line in their comedy. Funny wasn't wasn't so much a matter of correctness back then and neither was my uncle. He was pretty much strait forward with out editing. I am sure his humor was flavored by both comedians.
