For the Love of Country and Call Centres

I was expecting some money to appear magically in my account. You know the type. Auto deposit, from the government. Magic. And then it did not show up.

You see, I called the call centre a few days ago about something else and when they asked me to confirm my address I gave them my "new" one. It has been over a year but alas it appears this is the one place I did not change my address. The guy on the phone just asked me for the "old" one, which I gave him, and we proceeded to take care of that business. No problem.

Fast forward a few days and the money I am expecting does not show up. Not like I don't get to eat this month or anything, but hey... it is MY money after all. So, I call them.

Some delightful muzak and several minutes later a young woman, we'll call her Kylie, because, as I recall that is her name, came onto the line.

My son is about to turn 25 and it seems ALL the girls he knows have a name that starts with a K. We have called them "The K Crew" for years now. And for those who do not have names that START with a K... they all have a K sound... just sayin'.

So, I am sure that Kylie is all of 25, and life has not (yet) sucked her perkiness from her. Incredible I think based on the fact she obviously works at a call centre for the government.

I explain that I did not get my money, which I consider to be evidence that they wanted to talk to me. She assures me that is true and proceeds to ask all those questions that I fear I will not remember the answer to, but always manage.

Kylie looks everything up, says she thinks it is about the address change and says she will process a "reinstatement" and I should call back next week. I am thrilled about the opportunity to call back next week because I have yet to talk to everyone who works there and I have no other easily accessible source for muzak.
