Dying Embers

The passage of time tends to mellow the fiery passions of youth.

Dying Embers

The fiery passions of youth tend to devolve into comfortable complacency with the irreversible passage of time. The ever-march onward of that omnipresent, omni-consuming host appears to slow, and the intrigue, the allure of communion, the bright light of desire dim until love more closely resembles inadvertent, informal station keeping.

Banality asserts its authority, usurping any and all variegated emotions. Actions become routine; words morph into meaningless phrases construed only to punctuate extended silences. Participants in this dance of decline may find themselves wondering, "Is it time for a change?"

Life is constructed of relationships. Memories are built exclusively from moments. Desire is founded upon the intersection of both. Sometimes, all it takes to rekindle the old flame is the right words, such as, "Get off your dead ass and get back to work before I fire you."

Thanks for reading, Mel. Was one of those days at work where I had misplaced my ambition and this was an attempt to find it.

ittech, thanks for reading and for your comment. I hope the purposeful misdirection did not disappoint, nor appear too crass in the end.
