Behind the Scenes of a Hotel – Chapter 9 – Bad Manners

New chapter in my hotel series. This is about people with no manners.

Low Capacity

The hotel was fully booked by construction workers from all over the country. They were building a new shopping mall in town. The building which would have apartments on top was right next to the hotel so it was very convenient for the workers.

The hotel was too small to have enough capacity to serve individual meals when they all finished work and arrived at the same time so the hotel management worked out an agreement to serve breakfast and one hot dish daily. Then we could prepare the meal in advance and have it ready for the workers in the evening when they were finished for the day.

We were only two persons on duty as usual, so we had to rush to set the tables and prepare a tasteful meal on time. The workers were always on time for dinner. They walked in on our brand new carpets with their muddy, oily shoes making as much noise as a buffalo stampede.

Animal Behavior

When they sat down we hurried as fast as we could with their dinner plates. Suddenly a loud voice broke the silence: “FISH? I DON’T EAT FISH!” A man in his thirties seemed to be truly offended by the fact that someone could serve him something as bad as dead fish. I couldn’t help but wonder how on earth he had been raised. I believe monkeys have better manners!

I told him that he would have to pay for the meal himself if he wanted something else due to the agreement. He groaned and ordered hamburgers.

More Complaints

The guys had to wait a few extra minutes for dessert as we were a little behind with our chores. When I put a bowl of ice cream on the grumpy guy’s table the spoon moved so its handle barely came in contact with the ice cream. He looked at me arrogantly and gave me the spoon back. “I WANT ANOTHER SPOON!” he shouted. I was thinking to myself that his mother must be very proud of his manners. NOT!

Finally a Friendly Word

Exhausted and tearing up I went to the counter to get a new spoon. At the same time one of the other guys came up to me and handed me his plate. “What a wonderful meal! Thank you! The food was delicious, and you’re doing a great job here!” I could have kissed the man!

The grumpy monster refused to pay for his burger, so I added it to his company’s bill along with a cleaning fee for the carpets!
